=0D=0A$ Zum Inhalt des Vortrags\, der in englischer Sprache stattfindet: =E2
=80=9EThe Belfast/Good Friday Agreement in 1998 signalled the end of more
than three decades of conflict in Northern Ireland. Some 25 years on socie
ty remains divided\, and this is mirrored especially in the education syste
m where the majority of young people continue to attend schools that are c
haracterised by ethno/religious separation. Seeking to capitalise on the r
ole that schools can play in promoting social cohesion\, and underpinned by
contact theory\, intercultural and social cohesion drivers\, a Shared Educa
tion initiative was piloted by Queen's University in 2007. The approach pr
omotes collaboration between schools from different sectors as a vehicle f
or improving educational opportunities for all children and building inter
group relations. Shared education has had a significant impact in a relati
vely short time period\, with the majority of schools in Northern Ireland p
articipating and an associated legislative and policy framework now in pla
ce. The approach has also attracted interest from other divided jurisdicti
ons and shared education projects based on the Northern Ireland model have
been trialled in Israel and countries in southeast Europe. This presenta
tion examines the evidence for shared education and explores its unique co
ntribution to promoting social cohesion in a society still recovering from
conflict.=E2=80=9C Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos und ohne vorherige Anmel
